A highway and rail road will start from UAE, Iraq, Qatar, Turkey and reach London. The route from FAV port to Europe will save 15 days compared to the Suez Canal.
A memorandum of cooperation was signed between Iraq, Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the highway and railway development project to revive trade between the countries.
Under the auspices of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, at the Government Palace in Baghdad, a quadruple memorandum of understanding was signed between Iraq, Turkey, Qatar and the UAE on cooperation in the project for the development of a road connecting Asia with Europe.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu, Minister of Transport of Iraq Rezak Muhaybis, Minister of Transport and Communications of Qatar Qasim bin Seif es-Sulaiti and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE Suhail Muhammad Al Mezroui also attended the signing ceremony.
Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu said that with the road development project they will now provide uninterrupted transport from Turkey to every country in Europe by road and rail from FAV port in Iraq to London.
Minister Uraloglu stated that within the framework of the meetings signed “Joint Memorandum of Cooperation under the “Path of Development” project between Turkey, Iraq, Qatar and the UAE.
He noted that Iraq’s FAV Grand Port was designed as an important transit hub in the project. Uraloglu explained that the new route has significantly reduced the travel time between Asia and Europe through Turkey.
Uraloglu stated that the use of the route departing from FAV port to Europe will save 15 days compared to the Suez Canal. He emphasized that this project will open a new door in terms of regional trade.
The Turkish minister noted that the road development project is not only cost-effective and shortens distances, but also complements existing transport corridors. “In this way, it connects the east-west corridors in the north-south direction. A project that will contribute directly to the global trading system will contribute to the development and progress of all countries involved.
The development project of the road and railway line stretches from the Persian Gulf to Turkey and connects Europe by land. As we connect Iraq and Turkey, we aim to create a globally important trade corridor. The project will also strengthen the economic and geopolitical status of our country and the countries in the region,” Uraloglu concluded.
