With up to 130 km/h on the highways: Should the maximum speed be reduced – Society – Bulgaria – Hello, Bulgaria

The maximum speed on highways should become 130 km/h. Will the measure succeed in increasing safety and what else is needed to deal with the war on the roads? Vladimir Todorov from the Association of Accident Victims and Rumen Dunev from the Association of “Automatic Road Safety Experts” commented on the topic in the “Hello, Bulgaria” studio.

“This measure will not be adopted at the moment because the parliament is leaving. In essence, is this measure effective – only in two countries in Europe, Germany and Poland, the speed is over 130 km/h. In other cases, the permissible speed on highways is 110-120 km/h. If this measure is introduced, it is fundamentally good. But if its implementation is not controlled, it has no meaning and will have no effect. The only highway that has been completed is “Thrakia”. On it, for a distance of 340 kilometers, there are only 3 cameras installed,” said Todorov.

Road expert: First to repair the roads, then reduce the speed

Dunev stressed that “as a lover of high speeds, he thinks that this measure will not give results and contribute a lot to the general picture of road safety”. “Statistics show that the most traffic accidents with the number of deaths and injuries are on first-class roads. These are roads on which you drive at up to 90 km/h and there are no safety systems. These cases on the highway are three times less. The problem is not our speed on the highways. Such a measure, in my opinion, is not timely. In addition, this speed is the maximum permissible, but not mandatory. Drivers who do not feel safe at such a speed can safely reduce it,” he emphasized.
