The European Parliament decided until when we will use cheap roaming

--

During the last session of the current European Parliament, MEPs voted at the last minute on the new terms in the “Gigabit Infrastructure Act”. In this way, cheap roaming in the EU, which was due to expire on May 14, is extended.

Currently, the cancellation of roaming charges applies to the entire European Economic Area, which includes the EU countries, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Over 170 million people use roaming every day when traveling in Europe.

One of the main goals of the now-voted law is to generally reduce the costs of using networks that allow downloading data at a speed of 1 gigabit per second, Money.bg learned in Strasbourg.

Until 2029, the rules for the same prices for SMS messages in roaming, as well as for internal use, are extended. The price caps for both services were set to expire in May.

The new terms are now officially part of the “Gigabit Infrastructure Act,” which aims to reduce the cost of using networks that allow data downloads at speeds of 1 gigabit per second.

Measures are also being introduced that stimulate investments in digital infrastructure. What size they will be remains to be seen.
