Imagine a life where you literally never have to leave the apartment building you live in. For some, this may sound like a dream come true, and for others, it may seem like the beginning of a real nightmare. It was on these two opposing positions that TikTok users were also divided, who published their comments under a clip showing the Chinese residential complex Regent International, which can literally be described as a megacity.

Of those living there, nearly 20,000 people. they don’t even have to go outside to throw out their trash. The huge building is located in the central business district of the city of Hangzhou with a population of over 2,600,000.

Originally designed as a hotel, the megastructure has been transformed into a residential building that has a residential capacity of 30,000 people, meaning it can still accommodate another 10,000 people, with interest in the apartments currently remaining high.

Chinese news agency Sina reports that the small apartments, which are usually offered without even windows, rent for about 1,500 Chinese yuan (just over 380 leva) per month, while larger apartments with balconies can reach more than 4,000 yuan. (a little over BGN 1000) per month or more.

Built in an S-shape, the building is 206 meters tall and has between 36 and 39 floors, depending on which country you are in. It consists of one giant residential complex, a number of corporate offices, numerous swimming pools, barbershops, manicure and pedicure salons, supermarkets, bars, cinemas, restaurants, and its residents literally do not have to go outside.

Many have described the site as “the most sustainable residential building on earth”, but not a small number of people are of the opinion that the skyscraper represents a real dystopia.

The building was designed by renowned hotel architect Alicia Lu and opened in 2013, but according to local media, it is currently mostly occupied by students or newly graduated young experts.
