The first project of its kind, written and drawn by hand by the beloved children’s writer Nikola Raykov, has so far been an impressive success. In just a week, the announced 850 copies needed to issue a first print run were claimed by eager readers.
“The master of children’s words, Nikola Raykov, invites you on a magical journey through the fabric of the night, in a story about hope that glows in the dark and a story that intertwines the magic of dreams with the reality of awakening” – in these words “The Prince of Dreams” invites children between the ages of 6 and 12 to its book world.
But behind them is a serious work, including a text written by hand by the author with a calligraphic brush and a font in his own handwriting, which he specially created for this book.
The ink illustrations are also the work of the author, who traditionally adds a surprise at the end of the book – this time a dream diary.
“When I create a book or a game for children, I always ask myself how this product can help them, how it would contribute something to them, so I wanted to suggest to them that if they start keeping a dream journal, they can understand better and can more easily deal with fears and nightmares. Dreams mean more than we realize” – clarifies the Staro Zagorje writer Nikola Raykov, and adds that part of the recipe for writing for children is not to have forgotten what it is like to be a child.
