With the help of generative artificial intelligence (AI) – such as ChatGPT and Bard – students prepare essays and term papers, and colleagues even write articles. On top of the World Book and Copyright Day, it is worth thinking about something else: is there a possibility that we will also start reading novels translated not by a skilled translator, but by AI? What would this mean for the translators themselves – will it take away their bread or simply require them to have other skills? What would it mean for us readers? In the “First Page” podcast, we asked these questions to the translator Iglika Vasileva, who has given life in Bulgarian to the works of Virginia Woolf, Paul Auster, James Joyce and many others.
