On the occasion of April 23 – World Book and Copyright Day, Emilia Draghieva, vice-chairman of the “Beroe” Sports Club, and Gabriela Petkova, assistant coach, were guests of the “Svetlina” School No. 10.
They took part in the Reading Marathon organized by Rodina library with the book “The Barefoot Queen”, dedicated to Yordanka Blagoeva – champion in the high jump. She is the winner of silver and bronze Olympic medals from the games in 1972 and 1976, European indoor champion in 1972 and the first Bulgarian athlete to set a world record in an athletics discipline – the high jump.
After the reading, the children, together with the representatives of the “Beroe” Preschool, held a toning exercise.
The day is celebrated by a UNESCO decision of November 1995 in honor of Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
It inspires and encourages people, especially children, to read more. In more than 100 countries, Book Day is celebrated on this date.
