“Bulgarian Book” Association awarded the heroes of the book and reading for 2023 – Culture

Winners of the prestigious Booker Prize Georgi Gospodinov and Angela Rodel received an award in the “Communist” category for their outstanding contribution to culture and literature.

In Sofia, individuals, organizations and institutions with outstanding contributions in the field of books and reading were awarded at the “Knight of the Book” ceremony. Organized for another year by the “Bulgarian Book” Association, this year’s ceremony turned the World Book and Copyright Day into one of the most significant days for the Bulgarian book communitybringing together celebrities, libraries, schools, media and institutions that create books and promote a culture of reading.

The award in the “Communist” category was presented by Yana Genova, Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality, who stated the definite intention of Sofia Municipality to continue its long-standing partnership with the “Bulgarian Book” Association and to help in this books in Sofia reach the citizens of Sofia faster and more visibly.

This year “Bulgarian Book” Association received over 100 nominations for the “Knight of the Book” awardand awards were presented in three more categories – “Librarian/library”, “Teacher/School”, “Journalist/media”.

In the “Library/Librarian” category, the UNSS University Library received an award for its outstanding contribution to supporting the educational process and promoting reading. The award was presented by Miroslav Borsos, chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Science and Cultural Diversity in the Metropolitan City Council, who shared with the attendees:

“I will not forget the great lesson I learned in the library – to keep silence. It is a place where one learns to keep silence and slowly understands that it is one of the conditions of real reading. To this day, when I read real , I try to find it and keep it”.

The school award was presented to SU “Sava Dobroplodni” from the city of Shumen, which received well-deserved recognition for its commitment to books and education. The prize was presented by Emilia Lazarova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science:

“The book is what we all love, gathered here. The book is what guides our children, our students, that develops their reading literacy, that creates amazing skills, that makes them people who appreciate the good, appreciate the beautiful, appreciate the beautiful. Thank you You for this wonderful holiday!”.

In the “Media/Journalist” category, awards were given to the online reading platform “Knigovishte”, Georgi Milkov, Dimitar Stoyanovich and Evgenia Chausheva.

“It is very telling that there are four awards in this category, because it shows the key role of journalists and the media in supporting books and reading,” said Desislava Alexieva, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Book Association.

All partners and famous people who participated in the “Walk of Books” also received letters of thanks for their contribution.
