Tesla could start selling its Optimus humanoid robot next year, Elon Musk has announced. The automaker plans to use the robot in its own factory by the end of the year, the Elektrek portal writes.

A few months ago, Tesla introduced “Optimus Gen 2” – a new generation of humanoid robot that should be able to perform tasks set by humans.

Tesla claims that the company’s vehicles are robots on wheels. Now he just needs to make them in humanoid form so that they can replace humans in some tasks – mostly repetitive and dangerous activities.

$20,000 for a humanoid robot: Elon Musk unveiled Tesla’s new marvel

The robot is called Optimus and will “attack” the mass market in 3 to 5 years

In a previous Optimus update, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that “Optimus is extremely undervalued.” The CEO said demand could reach 10 to 20 billion robots a year. In terms of price – Musk has previously said he expects the Optimus to cost “less than half of an electric car” – so it will be $25,000.

He even confidently predicted how Optimus would represent “the majority of Tesla’s long-term value.”

The CEO believes that everyone will have a Tesla Optimus robot at home, and that the robot will replace many manufacturing and service jobs.

Musk stated that Optimus is already performing factory tasks in the lab. He believes that Optimus will be used to perform real tasks in real Tesla factories by the end of the year!

Musk also believes Tesla could start selling its Optimus humanoid robot to customers outside the company by the end of 2025.

The CEO reiterated that he expects Optimus to account for the majority of Tesla’s revenue and overall value.
