Rich’s problems: Dubai wives cry as rain floods their cars (PHOTOS) – Security in the News

PThe problems of the rich are not like those of ordinary people. Dubai is the glamorous desert city-state known for its endless sunshine, as well as the influencers, footballers and reality stars who flock there. But few expected the apocalyptic storms last Tuesday, when a year’s worth of rain fell in 12 hours.

Caroline Stanbury, a British socialite turned star of the reality show The Real Housewives of Dubai, was certainly surprised.

“Nobody realized what was going to happen,” she says. “We had forgotten. I had a dinner party planned for 15 people that evening. Msički said they would come anyway, but they didn’t even manage to walk towards us..”

“When you see the water flowing like a waterfall from all the luxury stores, Chanel, Dior, they are all affected… And our cars! Sports cars drifted through the streets…

“That’s when you realize how bad it really was. It’s not like the really rich people here are sitting on a mountain somewhere in their house and are absolutely fine. Everyone was affected by it.”

Her recently acquired luxury five-bedroom, “modern, all-glass, LA-style” home for £3.2 million was also among the casualties. Fortunately, however, Caroline has the staff to help her.

“When it started raining around 8am, I went downstairs and water poured out of my sockets. That was kind of scary,” she recalls. “I heard it behind the marble in the kitchen. It sounded like a knock. It was very strange. My kitchen was new because I had just moved. I removed all the wooden stuff from the bottom of the plinth because I was worried about it blowing up.’

Caroline’s office was fortunately unaffected by the floods. Her kitchen seems to have been the hardest hit.

“Bespoke marble kitchen,” she says with a wave of her hand. “Grey appliances and Miele appliances. Beautifully done. I don’t know how to describe it. I don’t spend much time there. We had about a foot of water. My driver was here. The housekeeper helped me. We had things to push the water out the door Mops? They looked like windshield wipers,” she says. “Everything was at hand. Everyone was running with towels.’

Caroline admits that there were warnings all along that there was going to be a lot of rain.

“I was super lucky,” she says. “Some people had no electricity. These houses weren’t built for a whole year of rain a day, so no one had enough towels, but we were spinning ours in the dryer.”

“The water was coming in through the windows. It was coming through ceilings. He entered through doors”

She says that after the first storm, she had to have her workers empty her pool because it was likely to overflow. The storm continued to come and go until 10pm that night.

“The thunder was also incredibly loud. I don’t know if you heard them on my Instagram, but the buzz was crazy.”

Ah, yes. Social media. Being a very modern person, Caroline inevitably illustrates the experience for her 694,000 Instagram followers and 321,000 TikTok viewers. She even made a tongue-in-cheek movie poking fun at what was happening to her. But Caroline immediately took the clip down when she realized the situation was more serious than she first thought. She insists it’s just British humour:

“When there’s a disaster, go and have a cup of tea.”

As the sun shines again – Caroline rotates her computer to show the clear blue sky. She says life is still not normal.

“Everything is at a standstill now. A trip that should take you ten minutes takes two, three hours,” she explains. “In addition to everything else, all children are being homeschooled until Monday while authorities work to get everything back up and running safely.” Indeed, we are all locked up in our houses. Nobody’s going anywhere. But I feel very blessed that everyone in our tight-knit community is coming together.”

Of course, she is very grateful that she is lucky after all.

“The aftermath will take time to clear up. I look at other houses that have had much more damage than mine and there is nothing left. I’m… I know, super lucky. I feel super blessed because there’s nothing we can’t fix with a good dry cleaning and paint. One of my friends really suffered a lot. Her house was about four feet under water. It was crazy and very scary. Especially when you have small children.”

“Other girlfriends lost their offices. The roofs have fallen. Their cars were destroyed because the water was literally up to window level.”

“One of my friend’s sons had to walk three hours to get home because there were no taxis or cars. Nothing. But given how much rain fell in such a short time, the outage is not surprising,” she said.

A ceiling collapses under the sheer volume of the rainfall

47-year-old Caroline has three children with her ex-husband. She is now married to former Real Madrid footballer Sergio Carralo. He is 18 years younger than her. moved to Dubai nine years ago.

She says the city has given her “the most amazing opportunities.” In addition to her Instagram following and stint on Real Housewives of Dubai, she has over seven million downloads of her Uncut and Uncensored podcast.

“I love Dubai,” she says. “It’s a place that completely embraced me because I was so different from everyone else. I was English.

“I was on TV [тя се появи в американския телевизионен риалити сериал Ladies of London, който приключи през 2017 г.], when there weren’t really any reality TV shows here. Now we have Bling and Dubai Housewives [чийто втори сезон започва през юни], but this is very new to them. They really didn’t have people like me living here. It has provided me with a great, great lifestyle. On top of that, time is also a plus.” She pauses. “I’ve been here nine years and I’ve never seen anything like this – ever.”

“The weather in England is so gloomy, but here… Well, we’ve had a few bad days.”

“Dubai is the number one tourist destination with 17 million visitors last year for a reason. Everyone comes here for the weather, the lifestyle, the safety… and that’s something a stormy day won’t change.”
