True love’s kiss for Sleeping Beauty or an invitation to the Metropolitan Museum of Art ball? Those who are in the ranks of international celebrities – and counting on the favor of Anna Wintour – do not have to choose, reported the Associated Press.
Stars of film, fashion, music, sports, politics and social media will soon – on May 6 – climb the steps of the museum to drink cocktails, dine and view the new exhibition “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” .
Fashion’s biggest night began in 1948 as a public midnight dinner, and it didn’t even take place at the Metropolitan.
More than 70 years later, it is one of the most photographed events in the world, known for its dizzying red carpet, although its color is not always red.
The party is being held to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and to launch the annual spring exhibition, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the museum.
Last year, a record $22 million was raised.
However, the world’s eyes are on the carpet itself and the 400-guest list, which has been the subject of furious speculation until the last minute.
Hosts of the glamorous gala on the evening of the first Monday in May will be singer and actress Jennifer Lopez, reggaeton star Bad Bunny and actors Chris Hemsworth and Zendaya. They will join the organizer of the event – the legendary editor-in-chief of the American edition of “Vogue” magazine Anna Wintour.
For Hemsworth, this will be his first appearance at the gala.
The theme may revolve around “sleeping beauties”, but it has little to do with fairy tales.
Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, the title of the accompanying exhibition, refers to garments from the Costume Institute’s collection. Until now they have been “dormant” and it is time to be “awakened” and exposed. Some of them are too fragile and can fall apart if hung upright. The clothes are expected to be placed in special glass “coffins”.
Curator Andrew Bolton has selected 250 exhibits spanning four centuries, writes BTA.
The theme is accompanied by a dress code – this year “The Garden of Time” – which is often interpreted too loosely.
Entering the museum, guests pass a huge flower arrangement in the lobby. An orchestra often plays nearby. The invited dignitaries then head to cocktails followed by dinner or go to see the exhibition. Celebrities who intend to cause a sensation with their appearance sometimes, as is the fashion, arrive late.
