Over 200 young doctors are registered for the second edition of the Academy of Ophthalmology in Plovdiv

Over 200 ophthalmologists gather in Plovdiv in the period April 25-28 for the second edition of the Academy of Ophthalmology. It will be held in Plovdiv at the Ramada Hotel, Trakia Hall, and the official opening is from 4 p.m. on April 25, 2024. The Minister of Health, Dr. Galya Kondeva, the Chairman of the Health Care Commission of the 49th National Assembly, Prof. Kostadin Angelov, and the Chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Union, Dr. Ivan Madzharov, have been invited to open the forum.

The format of the conference is unique in our country and specially created for young ophthalmologists – young specialists and trainees. The theme of the event is “Refraction – From Physical Refraction to Refractive Surgery”. Within it, leading ophthalmologists from the country and abroad will present their achievements in the diagnosis and treatment of the most common vision disorders. The latest achievements in the treatment of rare eye diseases, both in childhood and in adulthood, will be considered.

17 practical courses in the individual subspecialties of eye diseases will also be organized to upgrade both the knowledge and skills of young doctors. They will have the opportunity to practice on the state-of-the-art excimer laser in our country, devices for corneal topography, biometrics, research of tear secretion, diagnostic equipment and treatment of dry eye, etc.

The event is organized by the Academy of Ophthalmology Foundation, the Bulgarian Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Neuro-Ophthalmology and Ophthalmogenetics and the Bulgarian Society of Retinology with the support of the Bulgarian Medical Union. Its first edition was held exactly one year ago in Panagyurishte, when over 150 young doctors participated in it. In addition to the training of young doctors, the two scientific societies also actively work for the development of ophthalmology in Bulgaria, and thanks to their efforts, the eye health of children and adults in our country is already among the priorities of the National Health Strategy 2030.
