PGCE “Vasil Levski” in Burgas is successfully working on an important project under the Erasmus + program, financed by the European Union. A few days ago, the final conference on the project “Using digital tools and STEAM approach – a way to increase student achievement” was held in the International Congress Center – Burgas. The official guests of the event were the deputy mayor for “Education, health care and social policies” in the municipality of Burgas, Mihail Nenov, and the head of the Regional Department of Education, Petya Petrova.

The closing conference was also attended by the chair of the School Board Rumyana Gyurkan, Ani Yovcheva – member of the school board, the chairman of the Public Council Georgi Ivanov, principals, vice-principals and pedagogues from various educational institutions in Burgas.

The forum was officially opened by the director of the profiled high school, Vesela Ivanova. The participants in the mobilities presented the results of the project and 10 good practices were shared in the subjects of Russian language, chemistry and environmental science, physics and astronomy, English language, geography and economy, history and civilizations.

The participation in qualification activities under the “Erasmus+” program met the expectations that the team of PGCE “Vasil Levski” had during the preparation of the project, informed the Burgas high school.

The main activity of the project was the realization of 12 mobilities. The training of 6 pedagogic specialists in Malta and 6 pedagogic specialists in Estonia led to an increase in their theoretical knowledge and practical experience of new methods and approaches to education, which contributed to increasing their qualifications in accordance with new technologies and in particular STEAM.

The teachers improved many different transferable competences and improved their communication skills in English, their abilities and skills for professional and social adaptation and increased their understanding of other cultures and environments, developed a sense of European citizenship and identity.

After returning from the structured courses, the teachers shared what they had learned.

At the school level, in the period 07-11 September 2023 and 06.12.2023, internal institutional qualification of 51 pedagogical specialists from PGCHE “V. Levski”, which are more than 96% of the teaching staff. Work with electronic resources and platforms, the STEAM-approach in teaching and digitalization of teaching and assessment of the learning process were presented.

Practices and expertise were presented to overcome the differences in students’ knowledge, skills and competences. On 06.12.2023, a conference was held and an analysis was made of the conducted open lessons. After the courses, activities are planned for the implementation of e-assessment methods in the school. 10 open lessons were held in: Russian language – 4 lessons, chemistry and environmental science – 2 lessons, physics and astronomy – 1 lesson, English language – 1 lesson, geography and economics – 1 lesson and history and civilizations – 1 lesson. On 19.02.2024, an eTwinning training for beginners was held on the topic “Development and implementation of successful eTwinning and Erasmus + projects”, together with an eTwinning ambassador, and 45 teachers attended the training.

At the municipal and regional level, online training was held with students majoring in chemistry – 2nd and 4th year, OKS Bachelor and major in informatics and IT in chemistry and chemical education” – 1st and 2nd year, OKS Master – broad and narrow profile from University “Prof . Dr. Asen Zlatarov” – Burgas. The training, with a total duration of 4 academic hours (two sessions of 2 academic hours each), took place on 28.11.2023 and 17.12.2023 on the Jitsi Meet platform.

On 20.02.2024, a seminar for sharing good practices with teachers from the district took place in two sessions – in the morning at 10:30 a.m. and in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Two e-twinning projects were launched at the international level, and thus PGCE ” Vasil Levski” increased its capacity for international cooperation.
