The Plovdiv Natural History Museum will educate children about the benefits and methods of recycling

Today marks the 54th time Earth Day. The holiday began in the United States and Canada in 1970.

However, since 1930, Bulgaria has bowed before the planet – our native and only home. This happened on December 14, and the initiative was taken by the then Minister of Agriculture, Grigor Vasilev.

The news about the Bulgarian holiday spread throughout Europe, and from here the search for the best day to celebrate people’s gratitude to the Earth began. The President of the International Agricultural Institute in Rome De Michelis indicates March 21. The day also has an astronomical value and can satisfy all the requirements of all the countries of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres of the Earth.

Years later, the United States established April 22 as International Earth Day.

Today at the Regional Museum of Natural History in Plovdiv, a workshop “Recycling and environmental protection” will be held. from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Planetarium Hall. It is part of the program of the “Young Blue Earth” youth festival.

There will be a talk about the benefits of recycling, the materials that can be recycled and the places suitable for it. It will be followed by a quiz to check the acquired knowledge and
a game related to recycling materials and waste (distribution of different materials in the designated places).
