Nikolay Pandezov from the group “Development for Pazardjik” suggests that the remuneration of the municipal councilors in Pazardzhik should be reduced from BGN 1,984.50 to BGN 882.

He has submitted his proposal to the administration of the local authority, and the discussion in the hall is expected on April 25.

The idea of such a change has been discussed since the session, when it was decided that the salary of the mayor of the municipality, Petar Kulenski, should increase to 4,900. The salary of the chairman of the Municipal Council, Nayden Shopov, who is currently signing for 4,410 BGN, will be increased proportionally.

And the councilors’ remuneration is 45% of the amount due to the chairman.

The reason given is the large indebtedness of the Municipality of Pazardzhik, which according to data so far is over BGN 50 million. Therefore, it is necessary for the administration and the Municipal Council to work with the maximum limitation of expenses and financing only the basic systems, without which the municipality could not function.

It is also noted that the adequate and high-quality payment of the employees of the administration will lead to a higher quality of service to the citizens and will reduce the possibility of corruption. As well as that the work of municipal councilors should be largely for public benefit free of charge, since each councilor can freely perform his profession and receive remuneration for it. The reasons also state that with the reduced remuneration for councilors, the Municipality of Pazardzhik would save BGN 2,160 for a 4-year term, Darik reports.
