The exhibition “Bulgarian needlework and Chinese hieroglyphs – an (impossible) parallel” was opened in the Regional Ethnographic Museum. Twelve miniatures of Lyudmila Alexandrova are included in the exhibition, organized by the “Confucius” Classroom at the “Paisii Hilendarski” University of Plovdiv. In them, the author looks for parallels between the symbolism of traditional Bulgarian needlework and Chinese hieroglyphics.

The exhibition is inspired by the idea of intercultural dialogue beyond the limits of words, carried out through the means of expression of traditional art.

During the opening, students from AMTII “Prof. Asen Diamandiev” and Chinese volunteers of the “Confucius” Institute, Sofia presented to the guests another long-awaited project of the “Confucius” Classroom – a boutique concert “In the unknown world of Chinese folk music”. The halls of the museum were resounded by performances of traditional Chinese instruments, vocal performances and dance impressions.

The official guest of the exhibition and boutique concert, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China and the Chinese Language Day at the United Nations, was Yang Tien – head of the “Education” department at the Chinese Embassy. He congratulated the organizers and participants and emphasized the irreplaceable role of art in building mutual understanding and friendly relations between our countries.

On behalf of the rector of Plovdiv University “Paisiy Hilendarski”, Prof. Dr. Rumen Mladenov welcomed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boryan Yanev – Vice-Rector of the Higher School, who shared his impressions of his visit to China and outlined new opportunities for academic exchange of Plovdiv University with Chinese higher schools.
