BGN 1,454 per month is needed to support one worker, the amount for a family of three has also increased

BGN 1,454 is the necessary daily amount for one worker. BGN 2,616 is the value for a three-member household with two workers and a child up to the age of 18, reported the KNSB.

The cost of living increased by 1.1% on a quarterly basis. On an annual basis, the growth is 4.3 percent.

The living wage recorded a weak quarterly growth, but already at a higher base accumulated in the previous two years. Price growth for the small consumer basket, which includes 20 basic and vital goods, showed a one-year increase of 4.2%.

According to KNSB data, about 2/3 (65.3%) of working people receive lower incomes than necessary for subsistence. 31.2 percent of workers receive less than BGN 1,000 per month.

KNSB points out that Bulgaria does not maintain the necessary level of the growth rate of wages, which would guarantee effective convergence. The minimum wage in our country is the lowest in the EU, as it represents 55.3% of the living wage.

The union is demanding the introduction of tax-free income, nominal income growth of 12-15% in 2024, and the minimum wage to be at least 50% of the average job wage in the country.
