The municipality of Blagoevgrad refused to build a social complex in the Strumsko district after the resistance of the local residents

Residents of the “Strumsko” district held a meeting with the mayor of Blagoevgrad municipality, Metodi Baikushev, in his office. It was decided that municipal housing and a social complex will not be built in the housing complex. This was done after discussing and presenting all the arguments from the local people. They were adamant that the neighborhood needs green areas, places for recreation and sports, but above all – playgrounds. A few days ago, the residents of the neighborhood were adamant that they were against the construction of such type of buildings.

“Therefore, my team and I will work to build a new modern park in the neighborhood with an underground parking lot underneath. We will apply for funding under the European Regional Development Program. If the project is approved, the parking lot will facilitate traffic, free up space and give us allowed us to turn the “brown spots” into pleasant inter-block spaces. In addition, during the period of sustainability, parking will be free for citizens – this is the condition of the program,” the mayor wrote on Facebook after the meeting.

Blagoevgrad Municipality will look for other suitable sites for buildings for social services and municipal housing, which are of great importance for vulnerable groups and disadvantaged people.
