Crowds of visitors celebrate International Earth Day …

Numerous visitors filled the Regional Museum of Natural History under the hills, where the third day of the Youth Creativity Festival “Young Blue Earth” is taking place today. The last day of the fest is dedicated to celebrations on the occasion of the International Earth Day, which we celebrate today.

Thanks to the many initiatives and fun games prepared for the children by the museum team, this is the strongest edition of the festival since its creation 9 years ago until today. This was commented by the director of the museum, ch. Assistant Dr. Ognyan Todorov.

Regional Museum of Natural History – Plovdiv celebrates the holiday with a series of initiatives on April 20, 21 and 22, part of what has become a traditional Festival for youth creativity “Young Blue Earth” at the Museum of Natural History.

In the festival, which is being held for the 9th time, children and youth from 5 to 18 years of age participate, who present their talented works and performances in the categories “Fine Art”, “Music” and “Dance”.

Performances in the Music and Dance categories have already begun. They will take place in the lobby of the museum and will last until 16:00, the museum reminds. The award-winning works of the participants in the Fine Art category are exhibited in the museum building during the event, and this year’s theme is “Water Gives Energy”.

The third and last day started today with the educational game “Treasure Hunt”, where the little ones managed to become pirates. The classes on “Recycling and environmental protection” continue until noon. They include a talk with all the useful information on the subject. a knowledge test quiz and a game related to material and waste recycling.

Until 5 p.m., the “Lively Exhibition” of “Green Balkans” can be viewed in the “Botany” hall. A specialist from the organization will introduce visitors to interesting bird species. The exhibition marks 10 years since the return of the white-billed kestrel to our country.

A music and dance program of children from Plovdiv kindergartens, schools and community centers continues in the lobby of the museum until 4:30 p.m. From 3:00 p.m., ninth-graders from SU “Lyuben Karavelov” will present the digital exhibition of the mammal and bird exposition through QR codes made by them and will be tour guides in these halls.

Again today, from 4:00 p.m., students from the seventh grade of “Lyuben Karavelov” Secondary School will present an interdisciplinary lesson on the topic “Herbs in Bulgaria”, together with a herbarium and an interactive map created by them in the continuation of Google earth in the “Planetarium” hall.

“This is the strongest edition of the festival since its creation 9 years ago until today. I am very happy that more and more children are happy to participate, and their parents and teachers strive to form in the children a new attitude of love for nature and concern for its survival”, commented the director of the museum.

International Earth Day is celebrated around the world on April 22. The aim is to remind the international community of the direct interdependence between man, the planet and its ecosystems. Over the past years, April 22 has become the largest non-religious holiday in the world, celebrated by over half a billion people. Bulgaria was among the first countries in the world, which already in 1990 joined the celebration of April 22 with various initiatives.
