For the third time in a row, law professor Maria Neikova took office as regional governor of Burgas, this time appointed by Dimitar Glavchev’s office.

At a short ceremony today, in the presence of the administration’s employees, Prof. Maria Neikova took over the position from the previous regional governor, Plamen Yanev, who wished her to successfully implement the state policy in the regional plan, in order to maintain the leading positions of the Burgas region in the country.

Maria Neikova stated that she will fulfill her official duties with a sense of great responsibility, initiative and dedication. She thanked the employees of the Regional Administration for the warm welcome and expressed faith that they will work in conditions of mutual understanding and in the interest of the residents of the Burgas region.

Prof. Maria Neikova has extensive administrative and managerial experience, the Regional Administration recalls.

She is a long-time dean of the Center for Legal Sciences at the Burgas Free University. Until that moment, she held the position of regional governor of the Burgas region from May 2021 to January 2022, as well as from August 2022 to July 2023.

Before that, Neikova was the regional governor of the Stara Zagora region in the period from 2001 to 2009.
