Over 3,500 persons seeking protection on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria have turned to the “Mission Krile” Foundation for help. This was announced at the press club of BTA in Stara Zagora by the chairwoman of the organization, Diana Dimova. She pointed out that for the past 33 months, a team of specialists from the foundation have been working on the “Regional Model for Empowerment of Vulnerable Refugees and Migrants Seeking Protection in the Country” project.
“This is an effort that we used a fairly large team purposefully to change a reality with which we do not agree,” said Diana Dimova. She explained that during the implementation of the activities, “there were many challenges during this project”, which started in the middle of the covid pandemic. , at the end of February 2022, a year that surprised us”, Dimova also pointed out.
The project is aimed at persons who have sought or are seeking asylum in the country – refugees or migrants who are in a situation of vulnerability. The main focus of the team of specialists has been the empowerment of these needy people and advocacy for their rights, the organization explained. “The innovative element we included was the inclusion of refugees as equal participants in the search for quality change in life and the social environment, perceiving them as individuals who can contribute to themselves and the community with their activity,” explained the Mission Foundation. wings’.
Over the past months, over 2,000 health consultations, over 1,000 social affairs consultations, nearly 90 legal consultations and five lawsuits have been filed. Diana Dimova pointed out that 80 people also received specialized psychological help.
She explained that “one of the biggest challenges facing us is the European Migration Pact or the new European legislation on migration”. We all do not yet know its application and how it will be implemented in the future, commented Dimova and added that very rapid deportations of migrants are expected.
The project “Regional model for the empowerment of vulnerable refugees and migrants seeking protection in the country” was launched on July 26, 2021 and will end on April 25 this year. It was implemented with the financial support provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway under line of the financial mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021 and is worth 156,000 euros.
