In exchange for a bag of garbage collected from public areas in the areas where the children live, each child received a bag of goodies – 8 types of sweet and salty delicacies. The bag also contained a coupon for a raffle with additional prizes, which will be drawn on May 9, when the spring sanitation campaign organized by the Municipality of Razgrad takes place.
The action “Candies for garbage” was held in three locations in different areas of Razgrad – in the residential complex “Orel” next to the Razgrad Municipality building; in the garden next to the “Central” hotel and in the garden next to the turnpike in the “Abritus” quarter /Water plant/.
Five-year-old Radoslava was the first in front of the checkpoint in Orel residential complex. After they filled a bag with waste together, the girl’s father Krasen Yordanov thanked the Municipality of Razgrad for the initiative, which, in his words, contributes to the better education and culture of the children.
7-year-old Eleonora and 6-year-old Valeria were among the first in front of the checkpoint in the “Orel” housing complex. The two girls are granddaughters of one of the authors of the idea to hold this initiative in Razgrad – Deputy Mayor Elka Nedelcheva, who recalled that the start of “Trash Candies” by analogy with the fairy tale “Plums for Garbage” was more than 20 years ago . Then Nedelcheva was a “Public Relations” expert in Razgrad Municipality. “The main objective of this wonderful initiative is to form habits in children to make an impression on them when they see garbage thrown outside the regulated places, and above all not to do it themselves and to protect the environment. These habits are formed by childhood, then it is difficult to change. I am convinced that during these years we have succeeded in instilling in the children that they must protect the place in which they live.” – said the deputy mayor Elka Nedelcheva.
And to the other points, the children came, accompanied by their mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, and together they cleaned the surroundings. Many returned again and again for more bags in which to continue collecting rubbish.
A total of 300 goody bags were provided for the participants.
