A live fish specimen of the “Nototenia” species from Antarctica now lives in the Plovdiv Regional Museum of Natural History

A curious meeting with Prof. Hristo Pimpirev and the team from the second polar mission to Antarctica will be held at the Museum of Natural History in Plovdiv on April 25, 2024 at 4 p.m., it was reported from there. And they added that the people of Plovdiv are waiting in the “Planetarium” hall to hear an interesting story from the explorer of the Ice Continent.

The new exhibition “Poles” and the first ever “Ice Festival” were opened in the museum.

The idea arose spontaneously after a meeting of the museum’s team of aquarists with Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, and the goal is to present species from the North and South Poles. This is the latest module to open in the museum as an exhibition area and is an important part of the team’s educational program.

A fish of the species “Nototenia” from Antarctica has successfully adapted in the newly built base of the museum. The aquarium in which it is placed is in an isolated environment with a temperature of minus 5 degrees. The water is purified by reverse osmosis and enriched with salt. Nototenia is fed with Crustaceans. The stress with it is very high, as it hides most of the time. Scientists are yet to study the behavior of the fish.
