Dimitar Ivanov from Burgas addressed the Bulgarian People’s Republic of Burgas. He sought us out, since the parking lot at Morska gara is already paid for by disabled people, he himself is one. The listener claims that until two or three months ago, he and his acquaintances, also disabled people, parked for free in the Public Access Zone. Then, in order to enter the parking lot, Ivanov showed his card to a person with a disability to an employee at the barrier.
At the moment, the service is entirely electronic. There is a price list on site for the new prices of paid parking and services provided in the Public Access Zone. The same can be found on the website of the DP “Port Infrastructure”. However, it lacks a description of what access is like with cars owned by people with disabilities.
Some of them have difficulty moving and one of their small pastimes was to go fishing, which necessitated a stay of several hours, Dimitar Ivanov told us. He gave the example of his acquaintances who fish for hours on the pier. At the moment, people are deprived of this opportunity, as well as of having access to the other sites of the Sea Station – restaurants, NHA and others. Ivanov also asks why the parking lot at the Sea Station in Varna is free for people like him, but in Burgas this is not the case. He also explained that he sent an email with questions about parking to “Port Infrastructure” Burgas and did not receive a written response.
BNR Burgas also sent questions to DP “Port Infrastructure”. From there they replied that the prices have been changed according to Order No. RD-09-15/02.02.2024 of the General Director. It applies to all visitors entering the port terminal by vehicle. The company assures that they have taken the necessary actions to ensure preferential parking for persons holding EU cards for parking for people with disabilities in the designated parking spaces in the Public Access Zone.
This will happen after the introduction of software changes in the system. After which, in the shortest possible time, DPPI will provide free parking for people with disabilities in the parking spaces designated for them for a period of 3 hours within 24 hours against the provision of a document by them, the company responds.
Currently, there are 16 parking spaces for disabled people in the Burgas area.
The calculations of the new parking prices were made after analyzes of the economic situation, monitoring of market prices, comparability of income and expenses when forming the cost of the offered services, and others. Also included are the costs of current repairs, salaries, consumables and others.
The DPPI specifies that the parking lot at the Marine Station in Varna is leased and is not managed by them.
