A driver who recklessly caused the death of three people will spend 5 years in prison.
Penalty “imprisonment” for a term of 5 years, with an initial regime of serving “common” and “deprivation of the right to drive a motor vehicle for a term of 5 years, for the defendant R.I., aged 62, determined a three-member composition of District Court – Kyustendil.
The court found the accused guilty of having caused an accident on 02.10.2022 in the land of the village of Novi Chiflik, Kyustendil district, on a second-class road between the villages of Novi Chiflik and Bagrentsi, while driving a car and caused death by negligence 3 persons and bodily injury to two persons.
During the execution of the “imprisonment” penalty, the time during which the “house arrest” remand measure was taken in relation to R.I., calculated from 02.02.2023 until the sentence is executed, was deducted, as two days of house arrest count as one day of imprisonment.
The court sentenced the defendant R.I. to pay the costs incurred in the case of nearly BGN 7,000.
The verdict can be protested or appealed before the Sofia Court of Appeal within 15 days.
