The court in Kyustendil ordered five years of imprisonment for the accused driver who caused the death of three people through negligence, the court in Kyustendil announced.
The court recognized the accused, 62-year-old R.I. guilty of having, on October 2, 2022, in the territory of the village of Novi chiflik, Kyustendil municipality, on a second-class road between the villages of Novi chiflik and Bagrentsi, while driving a car, violated the traffic rules by overtaking, as a result of which carelessly caused the death of three people and bodily injury to two others.
The court deducts the time during which R.I. was placed on remand “house arrest” from February 2, 2023 until the execution of the sentence.
RI was sentenced to wages and costs incurred in the case, nearly BGN 8 thousand. The verdict can be protested or appealed before the Sofia Court of Appeal within 15 days.
As a result of the serious traffic accident, the death of the driver of a vehicle moving towards R.I. car and elderly parents traveling with the driver. A motorcyclist traveling after R.I.’s car was injured, as well as the accused’s wife, the court told BTA.
