The Veliko Tarnovo policeman, who on April 16 had an accident with 2.31 per million of alcohol, has not yet received the prosecutor’s decree by which he was charged.

The reason why the 46-year-old neighborhood inspector Ivan Atanasov has not yet received his indictment is the absence of his lawyer from the country, announced the spokesperson of the Veliko Tarnovo District Prosecutor’s Office Totko Totev and added:

“Relevant examinations were appointed, numerous witnesses were questioned. The person interrogated as an accused is about to be charged. An agreement may eventually be reached, another summary trial procedure may be used. If the person pleads not guilty, an indictment will be filed.”

The policeman crashed his personal car at a traffic light next to a casino and the Regional Directorate of Forestry in Veliko Tarnovo on the evening of April 16, hitting a car in which a woman and a small child were traveling. The coroner read 1.84 parts per thousand, and the blood sample showed an alcohol content of 2.31 parts per thousand.

The disciplinary review appointed by the Director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has not yet been completed.

For driving with more than 1.2 per mille, the law provides imprisonment from 1 to 3 years, a fine and the revocation of the driver’s license.
