Last week, New Zealand was rocked by the murder of an elderly couple in the town of Waitakere, west of Auckland. Alfred and Gail Hanson, in their 80s, were found in their yard by their son.

The supervolcano to fear

Are we in danger?

He had gone looking for them at their home after both failed to answer their calls. A ram was responsible for the murder, which was shot by the police who came to the scene.

The animal was found next to the corpses of the couple. “The moment our team arrived at the scene, we were attacked by the ram,” local police said in a statement, quoted by the New Zealand Herald.

From him we learn that the police shot the animal shortly after their arrival. The couple’s nephew, Dean Burrell, commented that everyone was shocked by what had happened.

It turns out that the ram is not their property. The animal belonged to a neighbor and shortly before the incident, it broke the electric fence. Another neighbor commented to the media that this type of rams are dangerous when they are raised near people because they get used to them and are not afraid.

“We had such rams, and my husband would go out into the yard with a frying pan in his hand, because the ram always attacked him. Their heads are like concrete – they don’t feel anything,” says the woman, clarifying that the elderly couple did not expect to find the animal in your yard.
