You will see the legendary ballet “Swan Lake” with Primate Anelia Dimitrova and the star of the Vienna State Opera Ballet, Denis Cherevichko, on a glamorous evening on April 23 at 7 p.m. at the State Opera-Stara Zagora. Fiordi Loja plays Rothbart and Filippo Sartorelli the Jester. The entire multinational troupe of the State Opera Ballet – Stara Zagora participated. The premiere of the ballet masterpiece “Swan Lake” was on May 23, 2017 – for the first time in the more than 90-year history of the Staro Zagora Opera House. For the Staro Zagorska Opera, the appearance of this title in the repertoire poster was a real event and a challenge, both for the staging team, the artistic staff, and the Staro Zagorje audience. The prima ballerina, pedagogue and choreographer, current head of the multinational ballet company of the State Opera-Stara Zagora, Silvia Tomova stages “Swan Lake” based on the classical version by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa. The set and costume designer is the young talent Denis Ivanov.

DENIS CHEREVICKO won the hearts of the Bulgarian public after his participation in the Ballet Competition in Varna in 2012, where he won first prize and a gold medal. The charming ballet dancer remains forever with very warm memories of the competition, with many Bulgarian friends with whom he has kept in touch over the years.

In 2019, he visited Bulgaria for the first time in the role of Prince Siegfried from the ballet “Swan Lake” on the stage of the Staro Zagora Opera House at the invitation of Silvia Tomova and Ognyan Draganov. In 2020, he opened the ballet season in Stara Zagora by performing in one of his crowning roles – Basil from the ballet “Don Quixote” by Minkus. The role of Basil requires virtuosity, technique and a fiery personality – qualities that Denis possesses, which is why he was cast in the lead role in the Vienna State Ballet premiere of Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote in 2011. In this role, he also danced in the stage of the Paris Opera.
“This is a world-renowned ballet dancer, one of the “academic” dancers who dance beautifully and cleanly and preserve the achievements of the old ballet school,” says Silvia Tomova, artistic director of the ballet troupe. “It is a great joy for us that Denis will once again dance with the prima ballerina of our opera Anelia Dimitrova in the role of Kitri.”

Denis Cherevichko does not hide his sympathies for the Ballet of the Staro Zagora Opera and happily responds to guest invitations whenever possible. Sofia residents had the privilege of watching him in the unforgettable spectacle of the ballet “Sleeping Beauty” of the Staro Zagora Opera House in 2022 on the stage of Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture in the role of Prince Désire. Then he danced again with Anelia Dimitrova /in the role of Princess Aurora/, but this time in the company of Silvia Tomova herself, who celebrated her respectable anniversary in the role of Feya Karabos. Last year – for 6 days, the star of the Vienna State Opera Ballet, Denis Cherevichko, shared his knowledge and skills in ballet classes with the talented artists of the multinational ballet troupe of the Staro Zagora Opera. For young ballet artists, his presence is respectful and inspiring.

On August 5, at 9:00 p.m., the State Opera-Stara Zagora will present its impressive production of the ballet “Don Quixote” by Ludwig Minkus on the stage of the unique Ancient Theater in Plovdiv. A lush performance, created in the spirit of the great ballet tradition, carrying the pulse of the new era. The Ballet of the State Opera-Stara Zagora was awarded in 2019 with the award of the Union of Bulgarian Music and Dance Artists and Cantus Firmus “Crystal Lyre” for the performance of the ballet “Don Quixote” in the “Ballet Art” category. The main roles are again played by Denis Cherevichko and Anelia Dimitrova.
