To introduce three minimum wages, which will be tied to people’s education, suggests KNSB. The idea is that the current minimum wage should be for people without secondary education, and the other two minimum wages should be for people with secondary education and with higher education who work in their specialty.

1,454 BGN per month is needed for the maintenance of a person living alone, according to the KNSB. This means that his gross salary should be BGN 1,873. To support a three-member family of two parents and a child, BGN 2,616 is needed, which makes the gross salary for each of the parents BGN 1,686. 65.3% of working people receive less from the living wage.

In Bulgaria, only KNSB calculates a living wage. The International Labor Organization (ILO) has defined the living wage and all ILO member states (including Bulgaria) will have to calculate a living wage, said KNSB President Plamen Dimitrov. According to the ILO, a “living wage” is: the level of pay necessary to ensure a decent standard of living for workers and their families, taking into account the circumstances of the country, and is calculated for work performed within the normal work time.

The KNSB wants to introduce a non-taxable minimum in the amount of the minimum wage.
