The Holy Synod list of six eligible bishops for electors of a new Metropolitan of Sliven. The six nominees do not include Bishop Hieroteus and Bishop Michael, who were elected in February, but the election was subsequently canceled due to two complaints of collusion between voters.

Following these actions of the Holy Synod, there was tension and a hunger strike by Father Ivan Yankov, who announced today that new protests are coming as a sign of disagreement with the proposed bishops. This was reported by the BNR correspondent in Sliven Stoyan Radev.

This week, the priests of the diocese, who opposed the counting of the election in February, are about to meet and decide in what form they will protest, reports Father Ivan. He assumed that The Holy Synod will justify itself with a formal reason for the exclusion of Bishop Hierotei from the eligible list such as the revision in the Pomorie Monastery, of which he is the abbot.

“I don’t know what part of the clergy, but some part I think will protest. Because our choice is trampled. So they are moving towards the scenario of the Holy Synod imposing the next metropolitan”

For his part, Father Yevgeny Yanakiev, who sent the written complaint about irregularities in the election of the metropolitan and became the reason for the election to be canceled, commented that he welcomed the new list, but said that tension was expected along the lines of supporters of Bishop Hierothei before the Holy Synod and Sliven Metropolis.

” When facts speak, priests and theologians must remain silent. For this reason, Bishop Hierotheus is not included in the list, because the Holy Synod is aware of many things and for this reason it is necessary not to include him.

Father Evgeny did not exclude the possibility of schismatic actions appearing in the church.
