The regional governor Zahari Sirakov opened on Monday the first meeting of the Regional Election Commission in Smolyan for the elections to the European Parliament and for people’s representatives on June 9, 2024, which was appointed by the decision of the CEC of April 19, 2024. He entrusted the seal to the chairman Tanya Svetlinova wished the commission a successful and problem-free work. Sirakov said that RIC-Smolyan can count on the full cooperation of the Regional Administration – Smolyan for technical support and organization in order to hold fair elections in the region. Tanya Svetlinova was nominated by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms. She is from Smolyan and has a master’s degree in information security engineering. She was a member of the committee five times. In the last local elections, she was the secretary of the Municipal Election Commission. Officially, the CEC appointed the secretary of RIC – Smolyan – Dobrin Todorov, who is from the “Vazrazhdane” party.
On April 13, 2024, the regional governor held consultations on the composition of RIC-Smolyan with representatives of all parliamentary parties and coalitions. All the requirements of the Electoral Code for conducting the consultations were met, the participating parties and coalitions made proposals for the composition of the RIC, which contain the required documents according to Art. 60, para. 3 and 4 IC.
The regional election commission assumed its powers on April 20, 2024.
