Dobra Savova – one of the most beloved folk singers of Dobrudja – celebrates 92 years today

Dobra Savova – one of the most popular and beloved Dobruja folk singers, turned 92 today. She was born in the Dobruja village of Koriten on April 22, 1932. Ever since she was little, she sang the songs she learned from her mother and her older sisters and brothers. At school, Dobra is the best singer and a welcome participant in all school concerts and parties. Her talent was noticed at a festival of amateur art in Dobrich in 1950 and Savova was invited to record at Radio “Varna”. In 1952, Dobra Savova made her first recordings at Radio “Varna” and became a regular contributor to the radio. Recordings for “Balkanton”, BNR and BNT also follow. She became a soloist of the “Varna” Folklore Ensemble, with which she performed at numerous folklore gatherings, festivals and concerts.

Dobra Savova’s repertoire is from the Dobruja folklore region and mainly from her native village of Koriten. It includes more than 500 songs, among which the most popular are: “Autumn is darkening”, “Dobrudjo, young woman Dobrudjo”, “Provodil Kolyo za Rada”, “Kalino, Malino”, “I fell in love, mom, Elenka”, “Che who the devil was driving” etc. Her voice is characterized by softness, warmth and rich, precise phrasing.

Dobra Savova is the winner of numerous awards from assemblies and competitions (in Koprivshtitsa, at Aglikina Polyana) and the award of the Union of Music and Dance Artists in Bulgaria. She is called one of the “golden throats” of Northeastern Bulgaria, along with singers Verka Siderova, Eva Georgieva, Kalinka Valcheva and Sonya Kancheva.

The song “Mari Dobro, gül Dobrano”, which is most famously performed by Mladen Enchev, is dedicated to Dobra Savova. Its author (text and music) is Mladen Enchev.

Since 2012, a contest “With the songs of Dobra Savova” has been held in the area of ​​Teketo near the village of Alexandria.

He currently lives in the village of Klimentovo, Aksakovo municipality, where he leads a folk singing group.

Three generations of Dobruja residents grew up with the songs of the Dobruja folk singer Dobra Savova. She sang and preserved for future generations more than 400 songs. Hundreds of recordings on the Bulgarian National Radio, BNT and Scat TV. Releases his own gramophone record, audio cassette and CD of his most popular songs, as well as an autobiographical book. He successfully leads autonomous bodies in Koriten, Krushari municipality, and Klimentovo – Aksakovo municipality. He is an honorary citizen of Krušari Municipality, recipient of a number of high state and musical honors and awards for his activities. Happy Birthday!
