We commemorate the holy martyr Lazar Bulgarian – Chernomorie-bg.com

Today, the Orthodox Church honors the holy martyr Alexandra and the holy martyr Lazar Bulgarian.

Saint Lazar was a Bulgarian from the village of Debel Dyal, which is 14 kilometers from the town of Gabrovo. Even as a boy he left his native place and went to Asia Minor. In the village of Somi, he was hired as a shepherd, but as a Christian, he provoked the hatred of the Turks against him, and some Turkish noble threw him into a dungeon.

After long tortures and cruel tortures, which Lazar manfully endured because of great love for Christ, he was killed on April 23, 1802 at the age of 28.

The Lord accepted him in His eternal abodes and exalted him in heaven and on earth: many miracles happened over the relics of St. Lazarus. A biography was written about him and a service was compiled in his honor, which, according to the inventory of Prof. Ivan Shishmanov, were in the private library of the late hieromonk Neofit Rilski, but which are now unknown. His image is painted in full length in the chapel of the Rila Monastery “Holy Archangels”, where his native village Debeldyal is also indicated.
