The parliamentary health committee will listen to the line minister, the chief state health inspector, the director of the “Medical Supervision” agency and the director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in connection with the growing spread of whooping cough and the two deaths of babies in recent days, reports BNT.

Since the beginning of the year, the registered cases of the disease are over 280, compared to only 4 for the whole of last year.

In just one week, 75 infections were confirmed in Sofia, mostly in children between 10 and 14 years of age. 50 – 60% of those infected were immunized.

Doctors have called for a task force to be formed to discuss pertussis vaccination in pregnant women. The introduction of mandatory reimmunization for adults is also proposed.

At the moment, they can be reimmunized by purchasing the vaccine, the price is about 30 BGN.

For now, the infection is circulating mainly in Sofia and Western Bulgaria. The predictions are that it will gradually cover other regions of the country.
