The characters from the story “The Peach Thief” by Emilian Stanev come to life in a new premiere performance at the “Konstantin Kisimov” Music and Drama Theater in Veliko Tarnovo. The creative idea is the director Boyko Iliev, who is also the author of the stage adaptation of the text. The role of the strict colonel in the production will be performed by the star of the series “Guilts” Veselin Kalanovski, the theater announced.
Rehearsals for “The Peach Thief” in the Veliko Tarnovo theater began two weeks ago. The performance will be presented to the public for the first time on May 22 at 7 p.m. Artist Nikol Trendafilova is working on the scenography and costumes, and Petar Atanaschev is preparing original music for the production.
Actress Polina Petkova will play the role of Elisaveta in the play. The young actor Boris Atanasov, who is the newest addition to the theater’s dramatic cast, will make his debut on the Veliko Tarnovo stage in the role of Serbian prisoner of war Ivo Obretenovic. Actors Stefka Zlatkova, Detelin Kandev, Stefan Metodiev also take part in the play.
Guest-star Veselin Kalanovski, whom TV viewers know as the influential businessman Harizanov from the film “Guilts” on BNT, accepted without hesitation the invitation to portray the colonel. He has hundreds of roles in theater, cinema and television, and his latest incarnations on the small screen are in the series “Capitals in More”, “Dear Heirs” and “Brothers”.
“The Peach Thief” is among the emblematic works of Emiliyan Stanev, the action of which takes place in Veliko Tarnovo in the period after the First World War. The characters from the story come to life for the first time in the film of the same name by Valo Radev, and it stars iconic names of Bulgarian cinema , among which are the unforgettable Nevena Kokanova, Naum Shopov, the Serbian actor Rade Markovic and others.
