On World Book Day, the “Reading Marathon” ends with BNR-Burgas (VIDEO)

On World Book and Copyright Day, the BNR-Burgas “Reading Marathon” ends. For a month in schools and kindergartens in Burgas, we presented the contest “Fairy Tales with BNR-Burgas”, the 8th edition of which is in progress.

Hundreds of stories written by children for children are collected in the seven editions of the collection “Fairy Tales with BNR-Burgas”. Until May 24, we are also waiting for the participants in this year’s competition. Mariyana Racheva from the public media team points out the main goal of the initiative:

“This is the most important thing – stimulating reading in children and stimulating their creativity and imagination in writing stories. Therefore, they can participate individually and in groups, as well as write on any topic they want.”

Our teachers strive for the book to become a friend of the children, said the deputy director of the “Mahiail Lakatnik” Elementary School, Svetla Terzieva-Sarieva. The school is a public media partner in this initiative and the first two booklets of the project were jointly created:

“Besides reading independently in the newly organized and newly opened library, which we are very proud of, the older students take the initiative to read to their younger friends in the preparatory groups in the first and second grades, exchange books with each other, or else report interesting facts and stories they have read.”

They say that today’s children are burdened by their school responsibilities and a host of extracurricular activities. And when they read, here is what the elementary school students shared:

“I myself appreciate how important it is to read, I see from my mother that she reads a lot.”

“When I’m done with lessons and training, there’s time to read.”

“Sometimes I even read during recess when the book is interesting.”

“Before I go to bed I enjoy reading. Saturday and Sunday too.”

And the appeal of the Bulgarian language and literature teacher Rumyana Prokopova:

“Read to know! Read to be independent, to be in a different world, and to create your own.”
