Turkey is preparing a spectacular project across the border with Bulgaria – Balkans

The Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, highlighted the contribution that the project to build a second railway border crossing between Turkey and Bulgaria will make to increase the capacity of freight transport between the East and the West.

This was reported by the Turkish TV station Yirmi Dirt (24 TV), citing economynews.bg.

Uraloglu touched on the topic during a speech at an event organized by the World Bank on “Realizing the Trade and Logistics Potential of the Middle Corridor,” which he participated in via video conference, the Turkish Transport Ministry said.

The Trans-Caspian transport route or the so-called A middle corridor runs from China through the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus to Europe, bypassing Russia.

Uraloglu reminded that, taking into account the growing railway potential between Turkey and Bulgaria, the two countries have signed a memorandum on the creation of a second railway border crossing.

“This second rail line will increase freight capacity in the east-west direction and will contribute significantly to the rail potential of the Middle Corridor,” he said.

He said this would allow Europe to take a breather amid supply chain problems due to tensions in the Red Sea.

Uraloglu also said that the Middle Corridor, which serves as an important land and water bridge between the East and the West, is a unique promise of economic growth for the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus and even for the countries of the Middle East.

The minister emphasized that the country’s vision for 2053 envisages the construction of additional transport infrastructure for the growing trade between Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East and the strengthening of transport connectivity.

In this context, he also mentioned the high-speed railway being built between Istanbul and the Kapakule/Kapitan Andreevo border crossing on the Bulgarian border.
