The construction of St. Anastasia Children’s Hospital in Burgas has begun

The construction of the new “St. Anastasia” children’s hospital in Burgas has begun. The hospital is part of the model for integrated health care in the South-East region of Bulgaria, which includes the regions of Stara Zagora, Burgas, Sliven and Yambol.
According to estimates, it should serve a population of nearly 1.3 million people from the regions of Burgas, Yambol, Sliven, Stara Zagora and Haskovo.

The planned investment is BGN 70 million. Funds from the state budget, own funds of the municipality of Burgas, and European funding are used for financing.
According to the plan, the health facility should be ready by the fall of 2026, engineer Ludmil Mitov, manager of the construction company “Planex Burgas”, told Dividend.EU. His company is part of the consortium DDZD “MBALDB St. Anastasia” Burgas, who undertook the construction of the children’s health facility in Burgas.

“After the relocation of the underground communications, the actual part of the construction of the building of the children’s hospital “St. Anastasia” began. The construction workers lay the concrete base, and then the construction of reinforcement for the foundations begins. It took three months to design the hospital. We have gone through the necessary institutions, everything has already been agreed,” said engineer Mitov. He added that the foundation slab of the site is currently being laid.
The St. Anastasia Children’s Hospital building will have 10 floors – 2 below ground and 8 above ground.
It is in close proximity to UMBAL Burgas.

It is planned to build a new eight-story building with outdoor spaces for walking and playing, parking for specialized cars and people with disabilities.
The medical facility will have 133 beds, 10 of which are for intensive care.

There will be an emergency department with 11 observation posts, as many treatment posts and 9 fast track posts. The hospital will have a surgical block with 3 operating theaters.
About 100 people will be involved in the construction of the new children’s hospital in the coming months. At the peak of construction, which will be next summer, the number of people working on the site will reach 400-500, said engineer Mitov.

“Planex Burgas” has experience in the construction of health facilities. In 2023, the construction company received the prestigious “Building of the Year 2023” award in the category “Social infrastructure – health care” for the construction of the National Cancer Hospital “Deva Maria” in Burgas. There, the company carried out construction works worth BGN 6 million. Two floors of the hospital were built underground for radiotherapy procedures.

18 municipalities, 9 hospitals, non-governmental organizations, universities participate in the concept of integrated health care. The Ministry of Health is also a partner, with which an agreement has been concluded.
The concept covers three main directions – prevention and outpatient environment, care in a hospital environment and investment in human resources.
