The removal of Nayden Shopov from his position as chairman of the Municipal Council in Pazardzhik will be discussed and voted on by the councilors at their upcoming session on Thursday. The request for resignation was submitted by the councilor Blago Solov, who points out that the head of the local authority “systematically for more than 3 months does not fulfill his duties as the chairman of the Municipal Council – Pazardzhik”.

The author of the request emphasizes that the main and inalienable duty of the chairman is to comply with the laws of the Republic of Bulgaria. Solov adds that, as a municipal councilor, Shopov has no right to participate in the discussion and decision-making that lead to his election as chairman. This legal restriction is mandatory and its violation is absolutely inadmissible, the request also states, citing decisions of the Supreme Administrative Court on similar cases. In this case, the violation consists in his very participation in the election of the chairman, without examining how he voted and whether his vote was decisive for the decision. it is also clear from the text that reports have been submitted to the Commission for Combating Corruption and Confiscation of Illegally Acquired Property (KPCONPI).

“It should be noted that Mr. Shopov had the opportunity to recuse himself 6 times and not participate in his own choice, in order to comply with the law, but he never once took advantage of this legal right of his” – points out are still in the document.

“He deliberately, knowingly and repeatedly violated the law and his obligations to comply with the constitution and laws of Bulgaria, participating 6 times in his own elections, and this is indisputably proven despite his reluctance to provide the electoral lists, on which he personally signed” – says are still in the text.

The current head of the local parliament once again broke the law by refusing to provide the list of voters, which was neither a state nor an official secret – writes Solov.

The item for the removal of the chairman is the last item, the 39th, on the agenda for the regular monthly session of the city parliament.
