On Book and Copyright Day – April 23, diplomat Svetlozar Panov will present his novel “The Bagpiper” in Gabrovo, the municipality reports. The event will take place in the Assembly Hall of the National April High School at 5:30 p.m., and after the presentation of the novel, those present will be able to participate in a discussion with the author.

The novel is a story about two young Bulgarians from the middle of the 19th century and the trials they face. The action takes place mainly in Gabrovo, and longings, love, betrayals, escapes, ancestral memory, adventures, adventures, dreams, oppression and aspirations for freedom are skilfully woven into the story, says the author.

The novel aims to raise questions related to what we were like 200 years ago, what our ancestors dreamed of, and whether heroism was leading in the dark ages, or our people lived day by day.

“Will the reader agree that we had well-educated people who managed to merge as equals with their contemporaries from other parts of Europe? What did our ancestors manage to impress them with, or do we continue to be subject to the notion that the then Bulgarians were they only “bye Ganevtsi”? These are questions that anyone familiar with “The Bagpiper” would have their own interpretation of,” points out Svetlozar Panov.

The story of Maria and Hristo from the village of Toplesh, who are forced to make their choice, is historical fiction, but it is also a very personal account of how people faced challenges two centuries ago, as they do now. The novel is already on the book market. It was written during the author’s stay as a diplomat in Ireland and Australia.

Svetlozar Panov is a long-time career diplomat. He was ambassador, consul general and diplomat in Bulgarian embassies on several continents. He is also the author of the novels “The Queen” and “The Queen and the Devil” from 2007 and 2008.
