The Municipal Council of Burgas adopted major changes for the provision of scooters in Burgas. One of them is speed reduction. Scooter riders will now move at up to 13 km/h on the bicycle infrastructure and in the parks of Burgas. 20 km/h will be the maximum speed on roads and streets where the maximum permitted speed is up to 50 km/h, as well as on streets with built-in bicycle infrastructure, a reporter told Burgas24.bg.

Operators providing rental scooters will be required to limit their speed by software. Parking them in parks, gardens, squares, children’s and sports grounds, green areas, areas intended only for pedestrians, sidewalks, public transport stops, crossing paths and in front of access ramps for disabled people on the territory of Burgas Municipality is prohibited , except for the places designated for this by the Municipality of Burgas in parks, gardens and pedestrian areas. Operators will be required to indicate to users in their mobile applications the permitted parking spaces, as well as to use software technology to prevent the parking of individual electric vehicles outside the designated parking spaces, based on the capabilities of available GPS technologies.

Operators will be required to remove improperly parked scooters no later than 4 hours on weekdays and 6 hours on weekends, after finding the violation and notifying the operator, between 08:00 a.m. and 06:00 p.m. For incorrectly parked electric vehicles this will take place between 18:01 and 08:00 removal takes place between 08:00 and 12:00.

Operators will also be required to require their customers and users to verify their age, introducing an additional requirement for the latter to scan or photograph their identity documents.
