Turkish gendarmerie teams have captured an alleged member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region near the Turkish-Bulgarian border while trying to flee to Bulgaria, Turkish television station NTV reported.

The action was carried out in the area of ​​the city of Kofchaz. When the person was captured, it was established that he was a member of the PKK group.

By order of the court, he was placed under permanent arrest, BTA adds.

The PKK has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state since 1984 and is considered a terrorist organization by Ankara, the EU and the US. Tens of thousands have died in the conflict.

Meanwhile, it became clear that Turkey and the US have resumed bilateral consultations on counter-terrorismTurkish state television TRT Haber reported, citing diplomatic sources.

In accordance with an agreement reached during the Turkey-US Strategic Mechanism meeting in Washington in March, anti-terrorism consultations organized by the Turkish and US foreign ministries were held in Ankara, the sources said.

During the consultations, satisfaction was expressed with the visit of Elizabeth Richard, Counter-Terrorism Coordinator at the US State Department, as well as with the frank exchange of views that took place.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey building, discussed many issues related to Turkish national security, including threats from terrorist organizations such as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and its affiliated Kurdish fighters, the left-wing extremist DHKP-S , “Islamic State” and FETO.

Turkey, as a country with rich experience in the fight against terrorism, will continue its sincere cooperation with its allies and all countries involved in these efforts to fight against all forms and manifestations of terrorism, TRT Haber’s sources also indicated.
