A month before the elections, on the wall of the Vardar River bed, in the very center of Skopje, in big red letters was written: “Bulgarians in the constitution is treason.”
The anti-Bulgarian act belongs to the “Levitsa” party, which defended it as follows: “On April 18, 1941, the Bulgarian fascist occupation of Macedonia began. On that day, with the approval of Adolf Hitler, units of the Fifth Bulgarian Army, the Sixth and Seventh Infantry Divisions began the occupation of Macedonia. Vote for the “Left” – the only party that is fighting for the annulment of the treaty with Bulgaria…”
The pro-Serbian party GROM also made its contribution to the election campaign against Bulgaria.
“The European Commission should find a way for Bulgarians to go for coffee or breakfast when the decision is made on Macedonia’s EU membership, as they did with Hungary and Viktor Orbán,” said GROM presidential candidate Stevcho Yakimovski.

Civil Option for Macedonia was founded in 2013 in Skopje. The chairman of the party is Stevcho Yakimovski. Initially, the party took centrist positions between the two main political blocs. In 2015-2016, GROM became closer to the governing VMRO-DPMNE of Nikola Gruevski, entering into a coalition with them and sending two deputies to the Assembly. Since 2017, GROM has been an opponent of Zoran Zaev’s government, demonstrating anti-Bulgarian sentiments and a pro-Serbian bias
