The projects for the Plovdiv Ring Road – the expansion of the section from the “Tsaratsovo” road junction to the Asenovgradsko Shose roundabout and the future South-Eastern beam to “Skobeleva Maika” will be discussed today at a meeting at the “Road Infrastructure Agency” by regional governor Iliya Zyumbilev and mayor Kostadin Dimitrov. This was announced in an interview for Plovdiv24.bg the regional governor.

The two projects have been talked about for a long time, but Zyumbilev is optimistic that they will happen, since the ring road is important not only for the development of the city, but also of the region.

“It is very important for the implementation of these projects in Bulgaria to have political stability, so that this project can be a higher priority for the relevant ministry,” explained Zyumbilev.

Since the section is very long, his idea is to divide it into lots, like highways. Thus, it will be possible to work simultaneously and the overall implementation will be completed faster.

In the most advanced phase is the South-East bypass from the roundabout of Asenovgradsko shose to p. c. Skobeleva Maika – there is a selected contractor and the financing is secured. Zyumbilev would like to start the construction there as soon as possible, because this beam will take the traffic from Smolyan and Asenovgrad to the highway “Trakia”.

“Keep in mind that the Rudozem – Xanthi road is about to be launched, so the Plovdiv-Smolyan road will still be busy and this is a very good decision for the traffic not to pass through the city, but to connect directly to the Trakia highway” – he specified Iliya Zyumbilev.

It is expected that by the end of May 2024, the road from the Greek side at the Rudozem-Xanthi border crossing will be completed. For the opening of the checkpoint, all procedures have been completed on the Bulgarian side and it is possible that the border checkpoint will be open for transit by the middle of the year.

In the interview, the regional governor of Plovdiv also announced that for the section from p.v. The EIA procedures have been initiated from Tsaratsovo to Asenovgradsko shose, but the parcel plans and alienation procedures are yet to be made. Zyumbilev predicts that the actual activities on this project will probably take place in 2027-2028.
