I accept the nomination of DPS-Blagoevgrad to participate in the campaign as candidate for MEP in recognition of everything I have achieved in the European Parliament for Bulgaria, commented Elena Yoncheva and thanks the structure of the Movement for that.

As I have said publicly many times, the decision whether I will run depends on whether I can continue the battles that I have fought for the last five years for my country and whether I will get support for it, namely – stopping uncontrolled migration; stopping human trafficking (sewage); working measures against corruption at national and European level; protection of journalists from censorship and political persecution, noted Yoncheva.

As an MEP, I was able to make a breakthrough on a number of topics, she added. “I negotiated the overall legislation in the Migration Pact as group chairman, with the representatives of the European Commission and the Council. After five years, the pact was accepted. It repeals the Dublin Regulation, which is unfair to Bulgaria.

And it will help reduce uncontrolled migration,” Yoncheva pointed out.

We started work on legislation to effectively curb human trafficking, she recalled. Legislation for freedom of the media was proposed on her initiative.

I also supported the proposal to guarantee transparency of media ownership and financing, the protection of journalists from censorship, Elena Yoncheva recalled. Social networks, in her words, will no longer be able to download quality media content.

I will accept support for participation in the European elections, which will allow me to continue working on these important topics for Bulgaria, she stated. I will accept support that would give me the freedom to defend them, stressed Elena Yoncheva in her answer for BTA.

DPS-Blagoevgrad reported that at the meeting of the Party’s Regional Council, a decision was made to include Elena Yoncheva among the candidates nominated for members of the European Parliament.

In the current European Parliament, she is an MP from the BSP in the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.
