The court in Haskovo took a measure of remand “detained in custody” against a Bulgarian citizen, declared internationally wanted by the Cypriot authorities, on the basis of a European Arrest Warrant (EAW), the District Court reported.

The warrant was issued by the District Court of Famagusta, Paralimni, Cyprus, for crimes committed – theft, illegal possession of property, prostitution and pimping.

Until the international search for 48-year-old R.A. is reached after unscrupulous procedural behavior. After RA’s arrest, the District Court-Famagusta released him against a signature. But the Bulgarian citizen violated the conditions for his release and hid from the Cypriot judicial authorities. The search for him continued from September 2019 until his detention at the “Capitan Andreevo” border crossing on April 18 of this year.

According to the content of the EAW, the maximum possible term of “imprisonment” for the most serious of the committed crimes is 14 years.

The imposed restraining order is subject to appeal and protest before the Appellate Court – Plovdiv within a 3-day period, counted from the date of the ruling and its announcement in a court session, as in case of an appeal and/or protest, the case is scheduled for consideration by the Appellate Court court – Plovdiv on 30.04.2024 at 10.15 a.m.
