Allowing pertussis immunization for babies over one and a half months old will be a temporary change to the mandatory schedule for the duration of the disease outbreak. This was announced by the chief state health inspector, Assoc. Angel Kunchev.

According to official data, there were 314 registered sick people in our country until yesterday, but according to him, their real number is around 2,000-3,000.

Prof. Kunchev pointed out that he does not advise adults to get vaccinated now, including pregnant women.

“An immunized pregnant woman will transmit antibodies to the child after the first trimester,” specified the inspector. He recalled that years ago, no one was allowed to visit the child until the 40th day after birth.

“A measure such as isolation and quarantine will do the same job if the baby is not immunized, but isolation is achieved,” explained Kunchev.

Other measures recommended by health authorities are a filter in childcare facilities for children with symptoms.

In schools, according to Prof. Kunchev, separating one class from the others for 2 weeks is difficult to implement.

“We cannot give a ready-made recommendation, because among the schools there are those on two shifts and on the office system. If the directors decide, there is no problem for them to undergo training in an electronic environment,” explained Angel Kunchev.
