The municipal councilor from “Vazrazhdane” Mariyan Ivanov demanded that Dr. Lidiya Stefanova step down from her position as chairperson of the health commission in the local parliament.

“I want to call on Dr. Stefanova to step down from the chair and let her deputy lead the meetings while the investigation by the Medical Supervision is ongoing. The Municipal Council was also implicated in the allegations of manipulations carried out in the hospital she managed. I think it is morally so,” comments Ivanov.

Dr. Stefanova did not respond to the request. She went to the rostrum, but the chairman of the local parliament, Mihail Khadzhiyanev, interrupted her with the words “I do not recommend you enter into an explanation.” After a short reflection, she herself refused to answer whether she would resign from the chairmanship.

Last week, Nova TV published a report in which a patient claimed that she underwent a fake operation at the hospital, whose director is Dr. Lidiya Stefanova. Dr. Stefanova herself did not want to comment on the accusations, but for her part, she stated that she sees political provocations because she is the chairman of the health commission in the Municipal Council of Burgas.

After the broadcast of the report, Medical Supervision announced that they were starting an investigation into the case.
