In the Vidin region, the first case of whooping cough was registered in a one-year-old child, a reporter reported “Focus”. The child is from the village of Chuprene, he has received the three vaccinations necessary for his age, said the director of the Directorate “Supervision of Infectious Diseases” in the Regional Health Inspectorate in the Danube city, Dr. Pepa Tsvetanova. At the moment, the child’s illness is not severe, explained Dr. Tsvetanova. The child’s relatives are monitored by health professionals.

She added that the child was immunized recently, a few months ago, but not all immunized develop immunity to the same extent. In the immunized, the disease is mild, no complications occur and a mild course of the disease is observed.

Everyone who is around the sick person could be infected. The child is one year old, does not attend kindergarten, that is, his contacts are limited.

The contact child, who is 6 years old, a cousin of the sick child, with whom they live in the same household, is under observation, said Dr. Tsvetanova. The family doctor is monitoring the other members of the family as well, for the moment there are no new cases.

About 92 percent is the vaccination coverage for babies for 2023 in Vidin region. For older children – 90-91 percent, Dr. Pepa Tsvetanova also said and called on parents to make a quick inquiry with the personal doctors whether their child is regularly immunized.
